The Business Institute Internship Program

Are you interested in learning more about the process of creating public policy? Are you interested in participating in community outreach and education programs? If so, consider applying for an internship with us today! As an intern with The Business Institute of Washington, you will have the opportunity to meet and work alongside key individuals highly engaged in effecting change in our state.

Application Criteria: The Business Institute's internship program is offered to high school and college students ages 16 to 20. Having community service experience and/or the ability to speak another language is desirable, but not required.

When to Apply: The Business Institute accepts applications for fall and winter internships in the month of August. Spring and summer internship applications are accepted in the month of March. We're currently accepting applications for our winter internship!

General Summary of Responsibilities: An essential member of The Business Institute's community outreach and education programs, the intern position of Associate Analyst implements activities associated with the program areas of fundraising research and analysis, as well as media relations. Interns at the Business Institute are civic-minded individuals who are interested in expanding their knowledge of public policy and its effects on the business climate in Washington state. The student intern position offers an excellent opportunity to work with various groups involved with creating public policy, from nonprofit groups and private companies, to elected officials.

Interns’ responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Work exclusively on behalf of The Business Institute during times agreed to on the hiring date
  • Check email regularly and when you first come into the office
  • Integrate talents and expertise with The Business Institute's three-person staffing team
  • Compile legislative voting records for 49 State Senators and 98 State Legislators
  • Assist with online fundraising analysis and research
  • Creatively develop website copy and post on The Business Institute's website
  • Represent The Business Institute with the President in coordinating educational efforts with other pro-business organizations, associations and entities such as AWB, WA Roundtable, NFIB, and other business associations
  • Establish and maintain all educational files and correspondence. These files and correspondence will remain the property of The Business Institute.

Benefits: Interns will work for $10 per hour, depending on events and activities, or have the option of being compensated via school credit.
