2006 Political OverviewOff year elections are about change, pure and simple. Despite what economic reports tell us that our economy is robust and things are going well, Washington state voters wanted to see more change in Olympia and they got it. With a disheartened Washington electorate over President Bush's performance on the War in Iraq as well as media hyped GOP scandals brewing in the nation's capital, Democrats looked at 2006 as a golden opportunity to increase their numbers in both the State Senate and House. They succeeded gloriously. With the 2008 legislative session now convened the numbers now stand: 32/D 17/R Senate and 64/D 34/R House of Representatives. In order to more fully understand the influences on our own state legislative races, the Business Institute of Washington began an in-depth effort to analize campagn contributions directly after the 2006 Elections. You can find the results of this analysis on this website. Take a moment to read through the methodology, them brouse thorugh the legislative campaign contribution analysis by district. The Business Institute of Washington feels it is important to bring this information to the citizens of Washington state so that they more clearly see who and what has supported our state lawmakers, either as incumbants or challengers.
